DetailsEASTON, Pa. (10/25/14) _ Holy Cross scored 21 points in the first half and while running away to a 24-14 win over the Leopards. The Crusaders ran for 269 yards and dominated time of possession, holding the ball for nearly 16 minutes more than the hosts on Senior Day.
Holy Cross QB Peter Pujals rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown and was 9-of-15 for 135 yards and a TD through the air. His Lafayette counterpart, Drew Reed, had the start under center while coming off a shoulder injury, completing 19-of-33 for 192 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. Holy Cross led 21-0 just before the end of the half when Pujals found Jake Wieczorek for a 29-yard TD.
On the ensuing Lafayette drive, Reed led the Leopards 80 yards for their first score of the night. He connected with four different receivers with the final throw a 14-yard screen pass to Ross Scheuerman on the home sideline for the score with 11 seconds to go in the half. Lafayette trailed 21-7 at halftime of Homecoming Weekend.
The Leopards received the ball to start the second half and took it the distance. Lafayette converted on 3rd-and-2 as Reed scrambled for 10 yards. A six yard completion to Demetrius Dixon on 2rd-and-5 kept the drive alive at the Holy Cross 28. On a second down, Reed found Justin Adams in the back right corner of the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown, cutting the Crusader lead to 21-14 early in the third quarter, as close as Lafayette would get on the night.
