#21 Lafayette at Colgate
November 1, 2008
It was a tale of two halves as Lafayette dominated play in the first half, while Colgate played better in the second half to secure the win. Lafayette drew first blood seven and a half minutes into the first quarter, scoring on an eight-play, 55-yard drive. Junior quarterback Rob Curley finished off the drive with a four-yard pass to Joe Russo for his second receiving touchdown of the season. The Leopards extended their lead to two scores following the longest field goal of Davis Rodriguez's career, when he connected from 47 yards out to give Leopards a 10-0 advantage. Lafayette held Colgate to 43 yards rushing in the first half and just 46 yards of total offense as Colgate quarterback Greg Sullivan was 1-for-9 with an interception. Leading the way on defense for Lafayette was linebacker Mark Leggiero with 10 tackles, while cornerback Carlos Lowe picked up the first interception of his career. Opening the second half with the ball, Curley and the offense marched down the field, setting up a first-and-goal on the five before Colgate's Greg Hadley forced a fumble by Jerome Rudolph that was recovered by Colgate at the eight-yard line. The turnover proved costly as Colgate seized the momentum and drove the ball 92 yards for a score, cutting Lafayette's lead to 10-7. Lafayette answered with a drive of its own, culminating with a 35-yard field goal by Rodriguez. Following a short kickoff, Sullivan faked a handoff and scampered 35 yards for the go-ahead score. Colgate was able to put the game away on its next possession, scoring one last touchdown for the 21 to 13 score.
