Lafayette opened the 2009 season with a 28-3 win over Georgetown in the nation's capital. In the first home night game in Georgetown history, it was Lafayette that showed glimpses of brilliance under the lights. QB Rob Curley finished the night 20-of-34 for 259 yards and three touchdowns while Mark Layton reeled in seven catches for 107 yards and two scores. Jerome Rudolph added a 48-yard touchdown run. Mike Phillips was a defensive standout, forcing two fumbles while recovering another.
Final Score: Lafayette 28, Georgetown 3
