September 13, 2008
Though Lafayette tallied nearly 400 yards on offense, the Leopards' stingy defense helped secure the 24-6 win against Georgetown in both teams Patriot League opener. With the win, the Leopards improved to 2-0 on the season. The leopards marched 71 yards on their first drive, which was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Rob Curley. Sophomore Davis Rodriguez's PAT was good and Lafayette took a 7-0 lead at 10:07 in the first quarter. With less then three minutes remaining in the first half, sophomore linebacker Neil Goldsmith intercepted Hoyas' quarterback James Brady and picked up 37 yards on the return. The interception was Goldsmith's second and led to Rodriguez's 23-yard field goal that gave Lafayette a 10-0 lead at the break. Lafayette attacked again late in the third quarter when Coon scored on a one-yard run with 2:27 left in the quarter. Rodriguez added the PAT to increase the lead to 17-0. After a Georgetown score Lafayette responded when Curley recorded his second touchdown of the night with less then one minute remaining in the game on a one-yard rush to run the final score to 24-6. Junior quarterback Rob Curley finished the night 14-of-24 passing for 175 yards. Tyrell Coon and tailback Maurice White dominated the running game with a combined 212 yards on 35 rushes.
