Lafayette at Marist
September 6, 2008
Junior tailback Maurice White made a triumphant return from an injury-riddled 2007 season, rushing for 212 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-6 win over Marist. White is the first leopard to rack up over 200 yards rushing since Joe McCourt rolled up 212 yards against Bucknell in 2003. The Leopards got on the scoreboard first when quarterback Rob Curley connected with tight end Michael Conte for a 25-yard touchdown. The Lafayette defense, led by preseason All-American Andy Romans and Mark Leggiero, held Marist to 37 yards rushing and 58 yards in the air. Romans finished the game with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Leggiero added 7 tackles and a forced fumble. With less than nine minutes left in the third quarter, Marist had the ball fourth and inches at the Lafayette 10. Trailing 14-6, Marist went for it, but quarterback Chris Debowski fumbled the exchange from center and Lafayette took over on downs. The Lafayette offense responded to the defensive stop with a dominating drive that covered 89 yards on 11 plays and resulted in a 38 yard touchdown run by Maurice White. White finished with 29 caries on the night. Fullback Joe Russo carried the ball 12 times for 58 yards. In the air, Curley was 8 for 11 for 112 yards and one touchdown on a night not conducive to throwing the ball.
Final Score: Lafayette 28, Marist 6
