Lafayette vs. Yale

EASTON, Pa. (10/15/11) - Andrew Shoop and Ryan O_Neil completed 22-of-28 as part of a two-QB attack in a 28-19 win over Yale. On their first drive, the Leopards used 10 plays before Shoop completed a seven-yard strike to Kyle Hayes for a 7-0 lead.
Darius Safford_s second INT of the game led to the Lafayette offense scoring its first rushing touchdown of the season, a six-yard run by Pat Mputu. Yale engineered its own scoring drive, capped by Patrick Witt_s 10-yard TD toss with 4:16 left in the half.
The Leopards weren_t done in the first half. Shoop connected with Gould again for a 34-yard gainer. Facing 2nd-and-13 at the 20, Shoop lofted a pass to Mark Ross in the end zone for a 21-9 halftime lead.
Yale closed the gap in the third quarter on Philippe Panico_s 24-yard FG with 5:03 left. In the fourth, Yale needed just one play to cut a nine-point deficit to two on Witt_s 50-yard TD pass to Smith. LC led 21-19 with 13:17 left.
The Bulldogs attempted an onsides kick, but the ball didn_t travel 10 yards and Lafayette took over at the Yale 34. The offense faced 4th-and-8 on the 32, electing to go for the first down. An 11-yard pass from Shoop to the Ross covered the necessary yardage. Shoop picked up another first down with a scramble for 10 yards. O_Neil came in for the next play and scored on a six-yard QB draw and the Leopards were on their way to a nine-point win.
