Game 24
Lafayette vs. Colgate
February 10, 2010

Lafayette erased a 14-point halftime deficit, but a free throw by Colgate's Ben Jonson with four seconds left in the game, left Lafayette on the wrong end of a 74-73 decision at Kirby Sports Center. The game was tied six times in the second half, including the final time with 17 seconds remaining when Jeff Kari hit both free throws to knot the score at 73-73. Jim Mower had a game-high 21 points, while Jared Mintz finished one rebound shy of his fourth double-double of the season (19 pts. 9 rebs.). Ryan Willen added 12 points and Michael Gruner tallied 10 despite missing several minutes with an ankle injury. Lafayette (14-10, 5-4) shot a season-best 100 percent from the line, making all 19 of their free throw attempts. The Leopards came out in the first half with an early lead, 23-17. Colgate (7-16, 4-5) got into the rhythm of things and made 8-of-12 from the three-point range to move ahead. The last field goal for the Maroon and White in the opening half came off a Mintz jumper with 3:42 remaining that tied the game at 27-27. The Raiders outscored Lafayette 14-3 the rest of the half to lead 41-27 at intermission. At the 6:55 mark of the second half, the Leopards took their first lead in over 18 minutes off a Mintz layup (60-59). Mintz scored 13 of his points in the second half. Mower gave Lafayette its biggest lead of the second half, 66-63, on a Mower dunk in transition. Over the last seven minutes of the game, the score was tied six times with the Leopards leading twice in that span. Colgate finished with four players in double figures, led by Kyle Roemer and Jonson with 17 points, Yaw Gyawu with 14 and Brandon James netting 10.
