EASTON, Pa. - Lafayette capitalized on a pair of 20-point performances from Nick Petkovich and Seth Hinrichs en route to an 84-67 victory over Colgate.
Petkovich set new career-highs with 21 points on seven threes and Hinrichs scored 22, a new career-best, on 7-of-9 shooting and four treys.
Leading 24-23 after Jim Mower_s driving layup and three-point play, LC sank back-to-back threes. Petkovich hit one from straightaway before Mower connected from beyond, stretching the lead to seven, 30-23, at 3:26. LC led by as many as 10 on two different occasions. Les Smith_s steal and layup made it 35-25 and Petkovich answered Pat Moore_s trey on the next trip to make it 38-28 at the half.
After scoring three in the first half, Hinrichs opened the second half by scoring 17 straight points, including a four-point play on a corner three to put Lafayette up 52-37 at 15:42. After a timeout, Hinrichs drilled another from deep to extend the lead to 55-38.
Colgate_s Luke Roh converted a lay-in prior to Petkovich ending Hinrichs_ run with a trey off a feed from Mower to add to stretch it to 58-40. Moore hit a three for Colgate before Petkovich eclipsed his career-high with his seventh three. Mower got in on the act, draining two treys to push the lead to 72-51 with 6:41 to play. Mower_s pair of threes plus another with four minutes gave him 17 points.
