With the score tied 56-56 and three seconds left in the game Wesley Jenkins drove to the hoop and drew a foul. Jenkins went to the line with 2.2 seconds left on the clock and made both of his free throws to beat Lafayette 58-56. Jeff Kari led the Leopards with 18 points, while Jim Mower scored in the double digits for the fourth consecutive game with 11 points. There were four ties and three lead changes before intermission when St. Peter's led 26-21. The game was tied for the sixth time (39-39) on a jumper by Jenkins with 11:39 remaining. Lafayette finally got its leading scorer, Jared Mintz, involved with six minutes left in the game when he knocked down two free throws to help hand Lafayette a 45-41 lead. Mintz, who was averaging 18.2 points per game coming into the night had five points and did not take a shot from the field in the second half. The two teams exchanged buckets for the final two minutes of the game off a jumper by Nick Leon (13 points) and two free throws by Kari. In the last two minutes the Leopards inched within one three different times. St. Peter's led 56-53 with 28 seconds to go. Darius Conley fouled Michael Gruner on a three-point attempt that sent him to the line for a chance to make three and tie the game. Gruner converted all three opportunities and tied the game 56-56. On the final possession of the game, St. Peter's ran down the clock and set up the final play for Jenkins. The Leopards' last-ditch attempt to inbound the ball was stolen by Jenkins who finished with 16 points.
