EASTON, Pa. _ Solid defense and a rally in the last 90 seconds were not enough to erase a cold-shooting second half for the Leopards. Lafayette began the half 4-for-23 before the final charge as Bucknell escaped with a 57-49 win. Lauren Jackson led the Leopards with 10 points. The Leopards jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but the first media timeout came at a serendipitous time for the Bison, as the stoppage derailed Lafayette_s momentum and started the visitors on a 14-2 run. The advantage then swung back toward the Leopards with a 14-2 spurt. Bucknell once again responded, this time with a 15-3 stretch to head into the locker room with a 33-27 lead. The run by the Bison continued after the intermission, with Bucknell claiming 39-29 lead. The Leopards had another answer in them, holding the Bison scoreless for the next 8:44 to chisel the deficit to 39-37. After a three-pointer extended the Bison lead to five, the teams traded buckets to run the score to 44-39. Neither squad hit a field goal over the next three minutes, at which point six straight Bucknell tallies extended its cushion to 49-39 with just 1:30 to go. A three-point play and coast-to-coast layup by Downey then cut the margin in half, 49-44. But the Leopards would get no closer, as Bucknell shot 8-for-9 from the stripe down the stretch to hold on to the win.
