EASTON, Pa. - A strong defensive effort kept the Leopards within striking distance of visiting Fairfield for much of the contest, but the Lafayette offense was ultimately unable to capitalize, as the Stags escaped Easton with a 52-39 victory. LaKeisha Wright scored a team-best 10 points for Lafayette. The difference in the game essentially came down to one player, as Fairfield_s Taryn Johnson posted 18 points and 13 rebounds to fuel an otherwise locked down Stags_ team. As a unit, Fairfield was held to 35 percent shooting from the floor and a 1-for-7 effort from three-point range. The Leopards limited Katelyn Linney to four points on 2-for-11 shooting from the field. Offensively, however, Lafayette shot 25 percent from the floor and went 2-for-13 from three-point range. Senior co-captains Elizabeth Virgin and Lauren Jackson tallied eight and seven points, respectively. After taking five-point lead at the half, one run was enough for Fairfield to maintain a cushion in the second frame. An 8-2 spurt to open the period gave the Stags an 11-point edge, and though the Leopards trimmed the gap to five points on four occasions, they never came within a possession of the visitors for the remainder of the game.
