HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/3/12) _ Lafayette_s defense surrendered 755 yards of total offense as Colgate ran away to a 65-41 decision.
Colgate QB Gavin McCarney ran for 288 yards and three touchdowns along with passing 13-for-17 for 224 yards and two TD_s through the air. The Leopards were not without their own offensive highlights, cranking out a season-high 542 yards of total offense (284 rushing, 258 passing). Lafayette had two tailbacks, Ross Scheuerman and Vaughn Hebron, carry for 100-plus yards in the same season for the first time since the 2004 season.
QB Zach Zweizig hit Mark Ross for a 36-yard pick-up that set up the Leopards_ first score. Zweizig connected with Mike Duncan for a 17-yard touchdown to put the Leopards on the board, trailing 21-7.The Leopards entered the second half trailing 37-20, but kept playing. Brandon Hall reeled in a 21-yard pass for a touchdown on a drive that ran off 4:07 and covered 77 yards on nine plays.
Following a 75-yard McCarney run TD, Lafayette put together consecutive scores with Hebron hitting paydirt on a 63-yard run, the Leopards_ longest play from scrimmage in 2012, and Ross snagging a fade in the corner of the endzone to cut the lead to 51-41 with 13 minutes left. Hebron finished with 119 yards on nine carries while Ross collected 106 yards on seven catches in his fifth 100-plus yard receiving game of the season.
